Intergenerational Gardening Project

Intergenerational Gardening Project

Maynooth Access Group is so proud of our intergenerational social gardening project between Maynooth senior citizens and scouts from the 8th Kildare Maynooth scout group, which is being spearheaded by our vice chair and scout leader Carmelia Jordan.

Gardening projects like this provide a welcoming space to share cultural and life experience and a way for people to connect. While still in its early stages, the project aims to fosters new and renewed relationships between young people and older adults, which can help address previously held beliefs and stereotype, ultimately resulting in improved physical and mental well-being in participants, particularly quality of life for older gardeners and promoting enhanced interest in gardening for younger participants, sharing skills and mutual respect.

Sponsorship for this project has come from Kildare County Council, Maynooth Cycling Club and Maynooth GAA Club.
