Monasterevin Access Group
Monasterevin Access Group is a voluntary group who were formed to co-operate with others to improve access for all in Monasterevin. Following meetings with Kildare CKAN (County Kildare Access Group), The Access Officer in Kildare Michael Hurley and the Monasterevin Tidy Towns Committee, the Group was established having realised that Monasterevin was falling behind with some access issues.
The Chairperson is Margaret Worrell and Group members are Fiona Farrell, Mary Higgins, Teresa Troy and local representatives Patricia Ryan, TD and Councillors Kevin Duffy and Pat Balfe. Our first outing was a Town Walk to see first-hand what issues were facing anyone with a disability, wheelchair users and parents with buggies. While we acknowledge that great work has been carried out in our town we highlighted areas that needed attention to make the town and its footpaths accessible to all.
We noted some areas in the town where extra seating would be of benefit, and have requested funding from CKAN for same. An urgent project for the group is the provision of a second bus shelter in the town, and we have contacted KCC in relation to same.
A Facebook page was set up with the assistance of Tadgh Farrell which we very much appreciate.
We lobby with local representatives and we are grateful for their assistance and guidance. We are in our infancy as a Group, and we realise that there are many challenges facing the community through disabilities and our aim is to help make a difference.
